In our treatments, we use a medical grade localised Cryostimulation device to safely apply extremely cold vapours to specific areas of the body (approximately -165 degrees). During application, we superficially cool the skin to between 5 and 7 degrees which results in blood flow being restricted to the area. Immediately after treatment, the body’s own healing responses kick in, and blood flow returns to the area up to 4 times the usual rate for the the next several hours, promoting regeneration and repair, speeding up the natural healing process. We often get asked, ‘Isn’t it just the same as putting a bag of frozen peas on an injury?’ The answer is no, although peas have their place, cryostimulation works on the ‘thermic shock’ principle, the difference being the area is cooled down very rapidly, so the body hasn’t time to register this and adjust accordingly. Using a cold compress, such as frozen peas is beneficial, but the tissues are cooled much more gradually, and the body has time to get used to it, which is not what we want to achieve. This is why Cryostimulation is much more effective in treating injuries.
